Things to Know Before Purchasing Sony PlayStation 5
Sony is all set to launch its next gaming console, and it will be known as the PlayStation 5 or PS5 for short. It will be available from the 12th of November this year. It is arriving as a successor to the PlayStation 4 or the PS4 – one of the most popular and successfully sold gaming consoles of all. Till now, Sony has sold over 110 million units of that product. After all the successful PlayStation flagships, Sony is ready to set a new benchmark with the PS5. Amidst all the speculations and rumors, here are all the details you need to know:
Design of the PlayStation 5
At an event on 11th June, Sony revealed the design of their upcoming PlayStation 5. The console stands vertically, but you can choose to keep it in a horizontal position as well. From the video shown at the event, it is clear that the PS5 will have a long and sleek body with a black and white design that matches their DualSense controller. In that event, Sony also revealed that they plan to launch two versions of the PS5. One of which would be the standard console and the other one will have a slimmer Digital Edition that removes the optical drive.

As far as the controller is concerned, Sony will deliver the DualSense wireless controller with PS5, and this new controller will captivate more of your senses as you interact with the virtual worlds in PS5 games. The features of DualSense, along with PS5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech, will deliver a new feeling of immersion to players. This controller will have all the features of the DualShock 4 and has many other specs that haven’t been seen before in the Sony gaming controllers.
The DualSense controller has a built-in microphone, USB-C charging port, and is equipped with a six-axis motion sensing system (three-axis gyroscope + three-axis accelerometer). It includes a 2-point touchpad, capacitive type, click mechanism, and a stereo headset jack and charging terminals ports.
Difference Between PS5 vs. PS5 Digital Edition
The only significant difference we found was in the missing optical drive and the price tag. The designs are a little different, but that’s again due to the missing optical drive. Overall, the PS5 Digital Version has a better look than the PS5. You can switch to PS5 Digital Edition only if you plan to buy the games digitally or don’t want to borrow and share games with your friends or gaming services.
Specifications
When compared to the predecessor PS4, you will find some great improvisation in the PS5 console. The PlayStation 5 uses a CPU with 8x Zen 2 Cores at 3.5GHz with SMT (variable frequency), and 10.28 TFLOPs, 36 CUs at 2.23GHz GPU. It has a 16 GB GDDR6/256-bit RAM, while its predecessor had only 8GB GDDR5/256-bit. The internal storage has also increased with the custom 825GB SSD. PS5 uses a 4K UHD Blu-ray optical drive, and its memory bandwidth has increased up to 448GB/s. With this much power, you can expect the console to deliver smooth performance and incredible gameplay experience.
Sony revealed that the console’s new custom AMD processes a unit-based Tempest Engine. With the custom Head-related Transfer Function (HRTF) maps, this PS5 is most likely to allow gamers to experience high-quality 3D in-game audio.
Games
The PS5 will be backward compatible with nearly every single game in the PS4’s library. In a recent blog post, Sony confirmed that the console would be compatible with most of the 4,000+ PS4 titles because they believe that the most PS4 titles will most likely benefit from a more stable frame rate and higher resolutions on the PS5. Yet, there is no guarantee that every PS4 game will work.
Since most of them have been tested, Sony has confirmed that about 99% of your desired title will work on it.
Note that you cannot play PS3, PS2, or PS1 games on the PS5 unless those games were previously ported to the PS4. Following are some of the titles that will surely be available on your new PS5 console:
● Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
● Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
● Returnal
● Sackboy: A Big Adventure
● Destruction AllStars
● Oddworld Soulstorm
● NBA 2K21
● Demon’s Souls
● Resident Evil Village
● Hogwarts Legacy
● Dying Light 2
● Watch Dogs: Legion
● Elder Scrolls 6
● Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
● Lord of The Rings: Gollum
● Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
● Heavenly Bodies
PriceThe prices of both the devices vary for $100 only. The regular PS5 edition is available for $499, while the Digital Edition costs $399 only. As we mentioned before, the consoles will be available from 12th November, but you can pre-order it from 17th September onwards.
