On 8 December 2020, the event revealed the name of the producers, including Jesse Collins, Stacey Sher, and Steven Soderbergh. As an environmental initiative, the distribution of hardcopy items (music, screenplays, or screener copies CDs) will not be continued after the 93rd Academy Awards.

The Father premiered on 27 January 2020 at the Sundance Film Festival and is scheduled to release theatrically in the United Kingdom by Lionsgate on 8 January 2021.

The plot of the movie follows a man who is struggling with his aging and his daughter, who has recently moved into his flat. Hopkins is cast as Anthony, a father whose mental ability gradually deteriorates in front of his daughter’s eyes.
