Xfinity Gen 2 xFi Pod - Review

Xfinity Gen2 xFi Pod is the latest Wi-Fi extender by the company; it's relatively five times faster than the first-generation xFi Pod. However, there are plenty of things to know about the Xfinity Gen 2 xFi Pod, so let's take a brief overview of the device. Here we go.

Xfinity Gen 2 xFi Pod - Review

Design

Like the Gen 1 xFi Pod, Xfinity Gen 2 xFi Pod is six-sided (hexagonal), but it's slightly bigger. You can easily plug it into an AC outlet. It boasts air vents on the sides and rear to dissipate heat. It offers you an upgraded tri-band AC3000 radio along with a third radio for service optimization and back-channels communications. The device even comes with a pair of ethernet ports for two hard devices.

Set-Up

The installation process of Xfinity Gen 2 xFi Pod is a no brainer. You just need to install the Xfinity xFi app on your smartphone or tablet, and you are ready to monitor and control all the Gateway-connected devices, including computers, game systems, as well as lights. Plug the pod into an AC outlet, and the app will automatically recognize and awake the device; you just need to hold your smartphone six inches away from the pod. Keep in mind that the Xfinity Gen 2 xFi Pod is specifically designed for Xfinity internet and equipment customers, which means you won't be able to use this pod with any other extenders. So the gateway must always be in the non-bridge (default) mode.

Speed

The company clearly says that the Xfinity Gen 2 xFi Pod is designed to help extend the range of your Wi-Fi coverage and not to increase the speed of your Wi-Fi, so please keep this thing in your mind. However, it works fantastically, and with the help of this extender, you can use your Wi-Fi even in the areas of your home where you get poor or no Wi-Fi signals. Overall, you will be happy to use this extender, especially if you are an Xfinity customer.

But if you are using any other router for Xfinity service to save monthly charges, you won't be able to use the Gen 2 xFi Pod. You should not control the bandwidth access because some old devices don't support 5GHz bandwidth; they only use the 2.4GHz band. So it's not possible to tell a device with 2.4GHz support to use 5GHz bandwidth. So you should avoid controlling bandwidth access manually.

Conclusion

Well, the Xfinity Gen 2 xFi Pod is undoubtedly an excellent Wi-Fi extender. It's very simple to use, you just need to plug the pod and install the Xfinity app, and you are good to go.

If you are already paying for an Xfinity Gateway, I recommend you to buy this pod to control your devices. However, if you are not an Xfinity customer or want to control bandwidth for devices manually, you shall go for any other Wi-Fi extender.

By the way, the Xfinity Gen 2 xFi Pod is available for $119 for a one-pack. The two-pack pods will cost you $199. That's all I had to share about this Wi-Fi extender. I hope you liked the article. Thank you for reading it. Have a great day!
